WATER | Spring 2025
The water in between all things. The space, the fluidity, the emotion. That is how I think of this collection. Creating this collection was emotionally challenging, even unsettling and unstable at times. During this period David and I had a successful IVF transfer. Years of trying to conceive naturally, then, in 2024, a long year of IVF appointments, procedures, and travel. In February 2025 we successfully conceived our baby boy. I wish so badly I could go back to this time, take things slower, rest better, and pray more deeply. Many years of effort, and we finally achieved a dream - and in a precious time, lost him.
This is when I began this collection. Even though it was this year, I can’t remember if I began before or after he was gone. I can’t remember why I chose water as an inspiration. I think the thought of water felt soothing. Making this collection was lonely, my vision was blurred, and my creative connection felt paralyzed… like it was gone forever.
What I learned and processed is that beauty can emerge through pain; you so desperately need to mine for it. The act of doing a creative act is The Act; it is the masterpiece. It’s not trying to manipulate or trick your thoughts into creating perfection, it’s anything but. It’s sitting in it, creating from it, and accepting the moment as it lies.
This may not be the end of our story. I don’t know yet. I can’t wrap my head around any next steps at the moment. I feel I’ve been living in next steps for my entire life. This collection was created through many tears, anger, and hopelessness. But, even though our children have not grown with us here on earth, I believe they are always with me, and for them and my wonderful husband, I will continue to create. That is my next step. Continue.
I suppose our story is not complete. Not yet. We will bear fruit - in ways I can not begin to imagine.
